Red Wired
I wrote this book with Sherman So, who was Technology editor at the South China Morning Post at a time China was investing heavily in the Internet. China lagged about 7 years behind the US in their infrastructure, so in 2010, their boom was just taking off and almost no one in the West was really looking at China’s Internet growth. We reviewed what we felt were the most prominent and influential Internet technology companies in China at that time, focusing on what we believed to be their core competencies. Jack Ma had agreed to write a Foreword for the book. But at this time, Alibaba was going public, and Alibaba management and shareholders prohibited Ma from any external commentaries. I am happy with the choices we made in the particular companies interviewed for the book, as most of them have remained influential players in China’s Internet sector.
